Role: Production Assistant & Trainee Roaster

Job description, role & responsibilities:
the role will be split between assisting production roasting (and related activities) and packing & dispatch (packing coffee & preparing for dispatch)
assisting production roaster Thom with green coffee prep for roasting, sorting roasted coffee, general organisation and maintenance of equipment
packing and fulfilling both wholesale and e-commerce orders under supervision of production manager Wendy
working towards being able to compile, fulfil and dispatch orders on certain days of the week; general maintenance and cleaning of equipment, packing accessories and roastery space
shadowing roasting and learning to production roast
taking part in daily cupping and quality control, developing cupping and sensory skills for QC, developing brewing skills for QC
Working days & hours:
Mon - Fri - 36 hrs/week - projected hours as below
Mon 10am - 4pm (6hrs) - packing & dispatch
Tue/Wed 8am - 4pm (16hrs, roasting assistance + shadow roasting, packing)
Thu - deliveries + packing + online orders (8am - 4pm)
Friday (9am - 3pm 6hrs) - QC/training & development(AM) + orders packing & dispatch
A degree of flexibility will be necessary as the role develops and as and when staff holidays and absences need to be covered
Pay & other details:
Projected start time: February 2026
Salary: £26,800/year, review at 6 months once probation and initial training passed
Permanent contract, 36hrs/week, 5.6 weeks holiday (pro rata), auto-enrolment into a pension scheme

Who are we looking for:
Someone with a positive attitude, reliable, methodical and with good attention to detail and common sense.
Interest in coffee and attention to detail is essential, experience in speciality coffee is desirable.
