We’re hiring: Skilled Barista & P/T Roastery Assistant

This role is split between 3 barista shifts in the cafe and 1 packing & dispatch shift in the roastery

Based in Margate, Kent we’re a quality-driven coffee roastery with the simple mission to bring delicious coffees to our costumers and create positive impact in the process - within our industry and community.

What we do is centred just as much around providing great service and flavour experience to our customers as it is in improving value for the people that make coffee happen - from first and foremost growers and producers and also baristas and members of our team.

We are proud to work with a small number of exporting and importing partners with strong ethics who share our core values of transparency, quality and improving value for growers within the supply streams. We build longterm supply partners, always work to deepen out knowledge of our supply chains and prioritise buying from the same people season after season.

Our cafe, is a place where we get to share our passion for delicious coffees and great food. We’re all about relaxed, friendly service and have awesome base of local regulars as well as frequent out of town visitor, many of whom are regular drinkers of our coffees. It is not only a flagship store representing our brand but also a neighbourhood brunch spot where we serve delicious brews and tasty treats to our local community on the daily. Not gonna lie, it’s hard work but it’s also super fun, we have a really great team as well as customers and you get to eat some real tasty foods and drink all the coffee!


Who are we looking for:

Someone with a passion for speciality coffee and genuine hospitality with good barista skills who is keen to learn more and be a part of our small but growing team. Can-do attitude, a keen eye for detail and common sense will go a long way even if you don’t yet have all the barista tricks up your sleeve. We’re more than happy to teach someone who is keen to learn, strive to do their best and improve. That being said, ability to dial-in, pull consistent shots and pour basic latte art is a must, as is being able to handle a queue of drinks efficiently.

Here’s the deal with the job:

The role is split between barista shifts in the cafe (3 days/week) and roastery assistant shifts (1 day/week).
An exciting opportunity for a skilled barista who is keen to do entry level work in the roastery.

Working days & hours:

4 days/week with 30-32hrs/week - 3 days in the cafe + 1 day in the roastery
The required working days would be:
Roastery assistant - Wed (9am-3/4pm - depending on level of orders)
Cafe barista -Thu (8-5), Fri (8-3) & Sat (8-5) (25hrs)
This may need to be subject to some adjustment according to the business needs in the future but to keep it fair we require everyone in the cafe team to work 1 day of the weekend and always do our best to ensure everyone has 2 consecutive days off together.

If further working hours are needed we can keep this in mind and aim to accommodate, there is often holiday cover required to more shifts can often be picked up.


Barista responsibilities:

  • Dialling-in two espressos (one changing once a month or so) and one decaf espresso each morning, maintain consistent extraction throughout the day

  • Brewing batch brew and 2-3 pourover options (brewed with Orea)

  • Serving all coffee menu drinks to a great standard and with consistency during busy service

  • Daily essential equipment cleaning and maintenance

  • Helping with front-of-house duties and washing up

  • Providing friendly and genuine welcome and service to all our customers

  • Providing recommendation for retail coffee according to customers preference and brew method, excellent product knowledge is key here. You’ll be able to get familiar with the coffee offering during cuppings at the roastery.
    Potential to grow with the company and within the role, take part and represent Curve at festivals and trade shows.

  • Daily opening, closing & cleaning jobs as per shop checklist

Roastery duties:

  • Packing coffee according to packing list (wholesale & retail)

  • Completing orders according to packing list and delivery notes, ensuring no items are missing and boxes are shipped to the correct addresses (wholesale & retail)

  • Taking part in production cuppings to get familiar with current coffee offering


Pay & other details:

£11.5-12/h depending on experience + tips (tips are usually the equivalent to >£1/h)
5.6 weeks holiday (pro rata)
Auto-enrolment into a pension scheme with the option to opt-out if wanted
