Ovidio Garcia lives with his wife and three children and runs La Nueva Farm located in the Santa Ana La Montana region in Fraijanes. The Fraijanes coffee region lies south of Guatemala city and east of Antigua. It benefits from volcanic soils and high altitudes of up to 1800 masl producing some of Guatemala’s finest coffees.

Since his early age, Ovidio has been working as a coffee picker on other farms in the region, often together with his father. It was in 1987 when he planted his first coffee trees and he has been working and improving his farm ever since. Inspired by new ideas and visions for his coffee, he decided to call his new farm “La Nueva” literally translating into “The New”, reflecting the new start he was going to make.

Last year, he started processing his coffee into honeys and naturals, something that he is really excited about. Water sources are scarce in this region and therefore it is challenging for most producers to process coffee with the traditional washed method. Ovidio decided to turn this need into a virtue and dive into the challenging process of producing honeys and naturals. This has proven to be a success and he has won several prices in regional competitions with his coffees. We have tried Ovidio's coffees for the first time this year and have been very impressed by the clarity and complexity of flavour.
