Duromina is a coffee producers' cooperative in southwestern Jimma zone of the Oromia region. Even though coffee has been grown in this region for generations, it was traditionally processed by the natural, dry method with farmers unfortunately paying little attention to quality control. This has led to poor quality of coffee coming from this region despite having the ideal climate and natural conditions for producing excellent coffees – high altitude, fertile soils as well as Ethiopia's complex heirloom plant varietals.

Unfortunately, the missing link to it all was quality control when it comes to harvest and processing. As a result of poor quality, farmers were unable to receive higher prices for their produce, earning very little income.

In 2010, around a hundred local farmers banded together to form a cooperative aptly named Duromina which in the local language means “to imrove their lives”.Tthey sought out technical support, business advice and access to finance through TechnoServe's Coffee Initiative. Thanks to this the coop members acquired and installed a wet milled and began producing fully washed coffees for the first time. These improvements helped Duromina produce high quality coffees fetching higher prices and bringing prosperity to the community. Now that the quality control has been addressed Duromina farmers produce some of the best coffees in Ethiopia and have been awarded top prize in the leading regional cupping competitions.
