Speedy Spring Time Coffee Update!

Hello all!

We're super excited to be releasing two new coffees and would love to share a little bit about them with you.

First one up is the juicy and bright number from Murango washing station in North-Eastern Burundi. It come from cherries of Typica and Bourbon varietals produced by the women run Kalico Co-operative and processed by the washed method. We're really excited by this coffee's liveliness and fresh flavour notes of rhubarb and redcurrant and clean creme caramel sweetness. Perfect spring time treat! Really nice cold too.

The next one is an intensely sweet and jammy microlot called La Monanita from the El Bosque farm in Nicaragua run by the Peralta family. Nested in the lush Nueva Segovia region this particular lot of the El Bosque farm was planted under the Caturra varietal and processed by the natural method. We believe that the meticulous attention to detail this producer pays during processing and drying has greatly contributed to the cleanliness and complexity of this coffee. We've found notes of brown sugar, tropical fruits and nougat. What's not to like!

Both of these coffees are now available form the webshop and our next roasting day is coming up on Monday. So get stuck in!

Stay tuned for more exciting coffee news coming soon. In the meantime happy brewing and have a wonderful weekend!

All the best,

Curve xx

As a little preview into the new year at the roastery, we're excited to share with you our January and February public coffee classes schedule. It would be great if you can join us for some of these!

Stay tuned for new coffee arrivals in the new year and in the meantime we would like to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and all the very best in the year to come!

Subscription Service is Now Available!

We'll keep this one short and sweet and to the point.

Our coffee subscription service is now available!

It’s a little different to some in a few simple ways.

Firstly, after much experimentation, we have come to roast coffee to bring out the most of its character independent of brewing method. We roast according to the coffee and making the most of its flavours and sweetness. For this reason, our subscription is suited for all filter and espresso brewing methods.

Secondly, if you order more than one bag of coffee per month, your month’s coffee will be delivered in one parcel. Since coffee is at its best after 10 days of rest post-roast and up to two months later, it means you can take advantage of more efficient postage costs.

We keep our coffees on offer for around two or three months, so will be rotating the subscriptions accordingly. We will continue to select coffees with stand-out character and sweetness from classic and unusual origins, and look forward to sharing more of them with you as they come into the roastery!

Happy brewing xx

Hello hello! We're up and roasting!

Apologies for the radio silence here for a while! We promise we've just been really very busy and the first month has completely flown by!

Where to start ...

The roastery is now all up and running! Yaay! And we'd like to thank everyone for the great support in the running up to and first few weeks of roasting. Firstly thanks to our green coffees sourcing partners for hunting those delicious coffees and offering them to us to chose from; a massive thanks to all our wholesale partners who have given us their trust and have been placing those coffee orders, and last but not least thanks for all of Margate and Cliffs for giving us such a warm welcome. We're really happy to be part of such great community here!

Now what we've been up to and what's coming next.

Apart from having the weekly pleasures of roasting delicious coffees for our lovely clients, we've pimped up the roastery with some fancy accessories such as our favourite world map, a fair amount of shelf space and a diy hairpin leg cupping table! QC has never been such a treat!

We've set up and polished our webshop which now also includes home brewing equipment and COFFEE SUBSCRIPTIONS! Check it out if you're living far far away and would like to give our coffee a try! It is highly recommended by 2 out of 2 of this company's owners and hopefully by a few other people that have tasted our coffees so far. We can post to anywhere in the UK.

As for the coffees that are currently on offer, we've had to say goodbye to the well loved finca La Casiana, from Colombia, it was so popular that the limited amount only lasted a short while and we'll have to wait until next year to get some more. On the bright side, we have just had the pleasure of roasting two new coffees last week.
These are: Finca del Valle from an experienced producer Yusvi Aquilar from Huehuetenango, Guatemala, and Finca La Mesa from the talented Silvana Espinosa from Antioquia, Colombia. They are both tasting great and work well as espresso as well as filter. To find out more about them and/or order them head to the webshop.

A couple of weeks ago we've also hosted the first of hopefully many more public coffee events.
We've really enjoyed sharing a bit of our passion for coffee with the locals and loved the engagement and feedback. Can't wait for the next one! We will soon put more dates and further info up on our shiny new events calendar. So keep your eyes peeled!

Speaking of what's coming up. We have also been busy cupping samples and choosing new arrivals. There are some real coffee gems on the way! It's that time of the year when Ethiopian naturals are coming in and we have indeed found a very special one! We didn't just stop there though. We're always on the lookout for undiscovered Colombian microlots and one more might be on the way along with something a little more Central American and a very special coffee from Brazil.

We don't want to spoil the surprise so won't reveal more quite yet. But we're super excited for all the things to come and hope you are too!

Lot of love,

Curve

Progress Update from Margate

Hey y'all! Thanks to all of you who've been waiting patiently for this moment. We know it took us a while but here is our first blog post!

The last couple of months have been a very exciting if ever-so-slightly stressful time for us and it's now all coming together as we near the launch of Margate's first speciality coffee roastery, and so we thought it would be worth sharing some of what has been going on behind the scenes.

One immense step that has been in the pipelines for a while and finally happened last week was getting our roaster on the premises and ducted up. This wouldn't have been possible firstly, without the help of Glenn – the master joiner (quite possibly possessing superpowers) who kindly reinforced joists and repaired floorboards so that our Giesen could sit comfortably in its new pad and not fall into the yoga studio changing room downstairs. Thanks Glenn - we're very grateful!

Secondly there's Malcolm, the master roaster engineer, in possession not only of airflow and flue-related brilliance (also possibly superpowers), but inventiveness beyond measure in manoeuvring a half-ton roaster over floorboards, sills and in and out of a lorry – graci mille, we couldn't have done this without you!

As for the rest of the roastery building works, we have just spent some time down sanding down, plastering, sanding down again and finally painting the walls, as well as taking down some serious old metal bars of the windows so that Glenn can fix these and let some light in the coffee space. We will no longer have to work in darkness - exciting!

We should soon also have some much needed energies going in with gas men and electricians doing their jobs as we speak.

All of this is of course being made possible by the amazing Kier and Ed of Cliffs whose fearless project management and tireless work is guiding this whole operation to completion. Massive thanks to you guys!

On a different note, equally as exciting, we have booked a great selection of coffees from our green-importing partners and are very much looking forward to our first coffee delivery scheduled for later this week. To give you a little preview, there will be a super floral washed Ethiopian, a juicy and sweet Kenyan AB, a rich Colombian from Antioquia, a smooth and moreish Guatemalan microlot and a beautiful Costa Rican honey. Watch this space for more info coming in and more importantly the webshop launch!

Which brings us to what we're up to at the moment which is finalizing all our branding, packaging and website touch ups. As we've previously been focusing on the coffee stuff this has proved a fair bit more time-consuming, but we're powering through with lots of invaluable help from the brilliant and talented Sally Cowell Design, the designer of our logo and more to come!

All in all, it's all well under way and we're hoping to fire up the roaster by the end of the week!

Can't wait to have a go at roasting those coffee arrivals and getting them out there!
